This paper provides a synopsis of the Cross-Site analysis of the 3-year Workplace Managed Care Substance Abuse Prevention and Early Intervention (WMC) initiative funded through the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). It provides an analysis across 9 grantees of core measures selected by the WMC Steering committee and identifies the most successful WMC interventions within the context of workplace and health care settings. The paper describes, in detail, methodological issues related to doing substance abuse applied research in workplace and managed care settings; identifies commonalities across the grantees specifically in regard to effective practices; and answers basic research questions concerning what works and under what situations. Basic themes, meaningful patterns, links between demographics and variables and generalizability of findings across the grantees will be summarized. Probabilistic models will be discussed along with the implications for future research and policy. See wmcare.samhsa.gov
