With major funding from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, ETR Associates launched the Resource Center for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (ReCAPP) in April, 1999. Since then, ReCAPP has become a widely used public health education and health promotion website with over 16,000 visits each month by health educators, school teachers, and program coordinators working in the field of adolescent pregnancy prevention. ReCAPP users log-in from the United States and 73 other countries. In this presentation, participants will learn how to use ReCAPP to: 1) develop at least three key skills needed as a health educator, and 2) recognize best practices in the field of adolescent pregnancy prevention. Monthly editions of ReCAPP focus on germane topics such as "Male Involvement," "Emergency Contraception," and "Educating Positively about Sexuality." Monthly topics are explored through several columns focusing on educator and student skill building, summaries of current research in the field, practical learning activities, current statistics and others. After a brief overview of the development and structure of the ReCAPP website, the presenter will guide the audience in navigating these ReCAPP columns to find answers to their queries related to adolescent pregnancy prevention. The presenter will demonstrate how ReCAPP columns are used to develop educator and student skills such as "Facilitating Role Plays," "Handling Youth Disclosure about Sexual Abuse," or "Talking with Your Partner about Protection." In addition, the presenter will demonstrate how to access current information about best practices, research, and resources in the field through these columns, and through ReCAPP Discussion Forums.
