NACCHO, in collaboration with the National Center for Environmental Health, has conducted assessments over the past year to identify local environmental health capacities, needs, challenges, and improvement opportunities. Quantitative and qualitative data have been gathered on food safety programs, environmental health assessment activities, and general environmental health priorities. Results of these assessments will be shared. Discussion will focus on common themes emerging with regard to local environmental health capacity gaps, training needs, and structural barriers to effective practice. Based on these results, specific recommendations will be proposed for all levels of government to improve local environmental health practice.
