The East Side Village Health Worker Partnership is a community-based participatory research and intervention effort on Detroit's east side. Members of the partnership include the Butzel Family Center, Detroit Health Department, Kettering-Butzel Health Initiative, Friends of Parkside, Henry Ford Health System, Warren Conner Development Coalition, Islandview Development Corporation, V.I.S.I.O.N., the East Side Parish Nurse Network and over 30 community residents known as Village Health Workers. This presentation will focus on building relationships between the East Side Village Health Worker Partnership, and Detroit Police Precincts on the east side. We will describe strategies used to create and sustain good working relationships between these organizations. Based on the community survey described in presentation #1, east side residents expressed a need to address relationships with the police and safety as priority concerns. We will discuss how the East Side Village Health Worker Partnership and the Detroit Health Department work together to improve the health and safety of Detroit residents. The presentation will include non-traditional ways of integrating health services into the police precincts and other non-traditional settings.
Learning Objectives: 1. Develop strategies to create and sustain good working relationships between community organizations. 2. Identify strategies for integrating health services into non-traditional settings.
