Almost fifty percent of elders experience some degree of malnutrition in Vermont. The goal of the federal Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is improvement of the health of participants by supplementing the diet with USDA commodity foods and providing nutrition education. The purpose of this project is to provide justification for future program development for the Vermont elder CSFP population through the analysis of the CSFP nutritional risk data. The development of the database will provide the basis for a statewide needs assessment for elder nutrition education. The goal of this project is to link the findings of the nutrition screening with program planning in order to target Healthy People and Healthy Vermonters 2010 objectives. The specific project objectives are to: 1) examine responses to the nutrition questions; 2) analyze correlations between variables; and 3) analyze impact of geographic area. SPSS will be used to analyze questionnaire responses. Formative evaluation will be used to assess progress towards the objectives.
