Each year brings new and effective strategies to promote health. To ensure that this developing knowledge is applied effectively, the American Society on Aging and the Roybal Institute of Applied Gerontology, California State, LA with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have organized these strategies into a systematic program of Health Promotion/Disease Prevention for older adults which is replicable across a variety of settings. Developers of the program based their content on a survey of organizations providing health education to older adults conducted in August 2000. The program addresses consortium building, use of the media, culturally sensitive approaches, and effective strategies for working with older adults and the aging network. Survey participants were asked to indicate topic priorities for seven specific diseases and conditions that the project would develop over the next four years. This session will provide an introduction to the project's development which has included focus group research and a survey of potential end-users and the program content. This session will then detail accessibility of the programs through the Internet and published materials for ground-up development of community building contributing to older adult better health.
