This presentation discusses Emotional Labor from a public health and economic development framework. The extension and power of workplace influences onto community well-being and quality of life also will be considered, specifically that of service-type employment. Finally, strategies to identify, monitor, and mitigate workplace Emotional Labor as a determinant of health issue within the broader scope of community development will be offered.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the session the participants will be able to: (1) Describe several relationships between Emotional Labor and community health status. (2) Describe the impact of increasing Emotional Labor on minority communities. (3) Identify broader outcomes and repercussions of imposing Emotional Labor employment upon vulnerable communities. (4) Recognize the importance of understanding the concept of Emotional Labor as a determinant of health and quality of life.
