Tracking Healthy People 2010, the publication released with the Healthy People 2010 objectives in November 2000, provides technical information that explains how the data are derived and the major statistical issues affecting the generation and interpretation of the data. This volume is an invaluable tool for researchers and analysts, both academic and private, at all levels of government, to recreate the data for Healthy People objectives for their own study populations. With Tracking Healthy People 2010, users will have general data information and details about the measurement of the national health objectives all in one place.
This presentation will describe the statistical methodology and issues involved in tracking the Healthy People 2010 objectives. It will include 1) general data issues involved in tracking the Healthy People 2010 objectives, including target-setting and assessing progress, population denominators, racial and ethnic group data, data on socioeconomic status, select populations, mortality and morbidity classification, age adjustment, State and local data, variability of estimates, and the DATA2010 database; 2) the operational definitions for measurable objectives; 3) the major Healthy People 2010 data sources; and 4) other information relevant to tracking the objectives.
