The Best Practices Program will evaluate and describe innovative faith-based health care interventions for poor and medically underserved populations nation-wide. This program was funded by the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) and is coordinated through the Christian Community Health Fellowship (CCHF). The CCHF consists of health care professionals and ministries committed to living out their faith through personal involvement in health care among the poor. The primary goal of the Best Practices Program is to document and share creative and effective programs that have been developed in CCHF-related ministries. The program has several aims which include; being able to plan, implement, and prospectively evaluate new programmatic efforts within CCHF-related ministries based on existing Best Practices programs, and to plan and initiate a central coordinating and data-collection infrastructure for a Faith-Based Practice Research and Evaluation Network designed for ongoing studies of faith-based interventions in poor communities. A detailed description of the Best Practices Program will be provided during this session including examples of existing innovative strategies for faith-based health interventions.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, that participant will be able to: 1) Recognize innovative faith-based interventions that serve as replicable models in faith-based health care settings in other underserved communities. 2) Identify ways in which faith-based intervention models improve access and reduce health disparities in communities. 3) Discuss the various ways in which faith-based program activities can assure quality primary and preventive health care to medically underserved communities.
