In 1999, the Subcommittee on Risk Communciation and Education, a standing committee of the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Environmental Health Policy Committee, developed the "Seven Guilding PRinciples for Communicating Children's Environmental Health and Safety Risks". The guidance is designed to assist public health practitioners in federal, state, and local health departments in developing effective and well-targeted communication strategies, messages, and materials to children. Following this presentation the participant will be able to (1) identify effective risk communication strategies for children, (2) discuss the targeting of health risk messages to children, and (3) access materials related to developing and implementing risk communication with children
