The Minnesota Join Together Coalition is one of 12 state-wide coalitions funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to Reducing Underage Drinking. In an effort to encourage compliance checks and policy change throughout the state, a Mini Grants Program was developed to provide resources to local groups. In its 3rd year, 18 grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 were awarded to encourage compliance checks and policy change work at the local level. The presenters will explain how the Mini Grants program was developed, considerations for criteria, size of grants, record keeping, and results. Evaluation of the Mini Grants Program demonstrated that a small amount of seed money can provide a community with the resources and motivation to initiate and institutionalize a specific public health effort. This approach should be explored and considered for other public health efforts.
Learning Objectives: The presenters will discuss the effectiveness of the Minnesota Join Together Mini Grants Program in encouraging local compliance checks in communities throughout the state. Attendees will learn how to create a Mini Grant program to impact policy to reduce youth access to alcohol
