Local public health departments are increasingly conducting surveys of their residents to assess health needs. Most of these surveys are conducted independently or nvolve adaptation of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance ystem surveys. In California, some local health agencies are collaborating with the California Health Interview Survey to provide population-based health data that is comparable to other local areas in the state as well as to the atewide population. This presentation focuses on the extent to which information collected in the survey meets local needs and the extent to which it must be supplemented with other data.
