Healthy People 2010, released in January 2000, launches the U.S. prevention agenda for the first decade of the21st century. Healthy People 2010 translates prevention research and national data into an agenda for action. The initiative supports two goals: increase the quality and years of heathy life and eliminate health disparities. This comprehensive agenda covers 28 focus areas with 467 objectives. A set of Leading Health Indicators highlights 10 opportunities for improving public health. . Because the document is in the public domain, Healthy People 2010 is a tool for policy makers, health professionals, businesses and others to come together to improve health. This session will prepare participants to engage in future action on this new set of objectives for their own use in community health promotion programs.
Learning Objectives: 1. Increase awareness of the Healthy People 2010 objectives. 2. Promote the use of the newest health promotion data 3. Encourage the replication of the national objectives in State and local activities
