In an effort to provide cost-effective disease management interventions, managed care organizations are beginning to develop Internet-based disease management websites. To date, few of these sites provide theory-driven, empirically validated interventions. In this session, participants will learn about a number of criteria proposed for rating the quality of Internet-based disease management websites used by patients serviced within managed care organizations. Participants will be able to to identify 12 criteria used in reviewing 50 randomly selected disease management websites to assess accuracy, clarity, and overall quality and appropriateness of the websites for patients. During this session, the faculty will provide recommendations regarding which disease management sites are most effective in providing theory-driven, behavior change oriented material in the management of disease.
