This presentation will focus on non-elderly Medicaid women who are hospitalized for ambulatory care sensitive conditions. The results show that large numbers of these enrollees experience high-cost inpatient stays. Distinctions are made between low income enrollees who are otherwise assumed to be healthy and those who are disabled or medically needy. Racial disparities were tracked and will be reported. This is a multistate study.
Learning Objectives: 1. To present utilization and costs of ambulatory care sensitive care provided to nonelderly Medicaid women. 2. To discuss the issue of receiving timely and appropriate ambulatory care versus use of high-cost inpatient care. 3. To demonstrate the utility of the State Medicaid Research Files for eligibility and claims for a large number of States
