This paper reports on the Triad Women's Project. The Triad Project is one of fourteen projects across the country funded by SAMHSA to generate new information about integrated service systems of care for women with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders who also have histories of physical and/or sexual abuse. We report on the development of a comprehensive trauma informed consumer responsive integrated model of services that was developed for a rural population.
The Triad program model was designed to address the complex clinical needs of women in the target population and to enhance their parenting skills. A clinical case management strategy with multidisciplinary teams and peer supervision was used to allow women to receive integrated services within a fragmented system. A group therapy intervention was developed to address key issues in recovery from trauma, substance abuse and mental health problems.
The results of a pilot study of our interventions are presented from Phase I of this two phase study. In addition to describing the model interventions developed for this project, we will report demographic and outcome data for women who participated in the pilot study of the group and case management interventions and the results of some qualitative research used to delineate the important issues for this population.
